| It would seem to me that Mr Attwood has no idea what he is doing ? is a physcian or is he a Surgeon. Why should the last word just rest with him anyway...... freedom of choice, I think don't you agree. |

Well Dr Attwood obviously knows what he’s talking about other wise he wouldn’t be chairman of the Amateur Boxing Association's medical commission. I agree with you but he is the man who is in dialogues with pediatricians and diabetic specialists around the country to try and get diabetic boxers to compete at amateur level and if he can’t get diabetics to box in England then who can? |

Well if Mr Attwood knew what he was talking about, then why would he need to seek advice from other specialists ? and just because he is Chairman of the Association why does this give him the right to make decisions beyoung his knowledge and capabilties. May be the association should be seeking a more qualified chairman to make the right decisions for the youth who wish to box despite their condition..... may I remind all Diabetes is a condition and not a terminal disease. |

| Dear oh Dear feeling a little in secure then.... I have a youth in my local Cross country team who last year became IDDM. He is back on track now and doing very well indeed. Just searching the web for other clubs across the country to organise competitions for next year....... it was by luck that I hit upon the ABA Website, the comments in the forum about Diabetes and boxing was most interesting. It would be apparant the association have blinkers on.... well it is about time they removed them wake up and smell the coffee. Move over MONKEY and let me speak with the organ grinder ! Oh and by the way the team member also plays Rugby.... a very contact sport (would'nt you agree ) MUPPET ! |

| I agree with you diabetics can box in most countries all over the world so why is it just england living in the past there has been some great diabetic boxers “Smokin’ Joe” Frazier & Sugar Ray Robinson and that was back then when you were getting hit with big hard heavy leather gloves and there are fine. |

Well thank god for that, someone with a bit of common sense ! greetings WINGNUT (who ever you are ?) My argument here is that diabetes seems to have been labled as an illness! how very short sighted some people are. I know lots of people with Diabtes most of them are related ! for example my nephew my son and my sister..... so I have gained great insight into the world od Diabetes ! by the way my nephew is a great lover of sport and plays most anything (if he wishes to do so). As far as complications of Diabetes is concerned well to my knowlege these only occur if the individual neglects themself. Not many as I know do..... So the question here is why are people who are Diabetic penalised for doing something they love and are committed to and most of all ENJOY ! Surely the choice must be left up to that Individual. Should'nt IT ? Or am I missing something here ?????????? |

Diabetics shouldn’t be penalized for doing what they want to do they should just be advised by the specialists, doctors or people standing in the way of diabetics trying to lead a normal life. I think that diabetics should just be told what is the worst consequence of them doing that particular thing and the actual chance of it occurring which then leaves it up to that individual to choose to do it or not.

Then MAY I SUGGEST YOU ALL STOP moaning about it and do something POSITIVE for once in your life time. Like challenge the association a lot more including that quack................ Mr Attwood ! I rest my case ! |

I can not be bothered replying to insults but I will explain to the morons above who are apparently not doctors that they should look at the other topic on Diabetes. Where the Medical reasons have been stated previously. For those who find it too hard then I will also explain that I am a surgeon and in my own specialty I am asked for my opinion. I ask specialists in other fields (such as Diabetes) for their opinions. The opinion fromDiabetic specialists around England AT PRESENT is that diabetics should NOT box. That is why ABAE do not allow IDDM patients to box unless their own consultant is prepared to supervise them at all their bouts. As soon as the national organisations for doctors looking after diabetics agree to the conditions that they consider make it safe enough for diabetics to box contact me then the ABAE medical commission will meet and ask Council to amend the rules. Until then NO amount of hot air and clap trap opinions will make any difference.
