Yes Prattler you have put me out of my misery

unfortunately my eyesight is not what it used to be...to many knocks over 30 years, possibly? anyway i need help typing...keeping Brail away for a few years hopefully.

this "shot at it" inspired by you, might be a little neater.

as to irrelevant comments I make to the sport of Boxing ?

1st comment...the sport's falling numbers and virtually NIL exposure on T.V and the press and a possible solution....as an aside, with olympic places NOT assured for London.

2nd comment...the U.S senate looking into deaths
in professional (show) wrestling attributed to blows on the head....They Say...

blows to the head...nothing to do with boxing of course but boxing should keep an eye on the outcome in order to defend itself as a sport.
the shadow of Edith Summerskill is still waiting to pounce and we know that when the U.S sneezes the U.K catches a cold !

3rd comment..stupid i know but just an idea that clubs in similar Olympic disciplines constrained by finances...might find it beneficial to
actually jointly own their own premises.

4th comment seemingly of little interest was a point about Boxing in Schools.those a little older might remember the good that was just beginning to show when Lord Moynihan a welsh schoolboy champion, was for a brief period,
Minister for Sport.

I note from other contributors to Forum...that all in Boxing is going well and that all are happy with the way matters stand...it seems that there is litigationin the offing refering to one contributor

notwithstanding...with GREAT grandchildren arriving, i sign off wishing you Prattler and all in sport a super 2008.

why did the abae boot out wolverhampton aba ? i feel that it wasnt investigated properly. We all know the girls in question , and i feel that whoever investigated what happened was biased to my club. I am fourteen years old and being denied the chance to box other clubs , unless of course i change clubs ,which my parents cant afford. I suggest you get out and about and come to wolverhampton aba, come and see the good it does for the community ,and dont stop me boxing because one of your people didnt get his facts right ,i just wish as a boxer , i could appeal the decision that the abae made about my club . You boast about grass roots boxing ,but you dont give us young boxers a chance unless it suits you .

Anyone know the whereabouts of former Home Counties Top Man Clive Howe & Tom Francis, last i heard was Clive was linked to a club in London, would love to meet up with them or a Home Counties reunion for the 80's-90's teams, had some good nights away on trips, training camps with these former fellow Home Counties teamates. With some excellent Boxers in the team with the likes of Andrew Straughn, Earl Henderson rip, Davey Moore rip, Danny & Shane Porter, Sean Murphy, Renard Ashton, Clyde Ruan, Everett McLean etc etc along with some of the best coaches i had to train under with the likes of Ron Basten, Harry Goodwin, John Ashton, Dave Richards, Dave Rawlings. Could meet up somewhere 'Central' say Aylesbury, Hemel, Slough?
Also a former Clubmate of mine called Gary Woods? Was living in the Oxford area in the early to mid 80's have seen him on the TV once or twice over the years sitting near ringside in London Shows, where are you Gary?
Would be a good night so where are my old foes and teammates???

mark 123...you'll in the long run,get lots of satisfaction... BUT LITTLE THANKS !

i have been taking a dotage tour around Central Europe and Asia Minor and have witnessed
forms of Wrestling/Boxing and other variations organised in villages etc without Mats or Rings
just a circle and occasionally square drawn in the Mud/Sand....no modern pariphanalia did not stop these (hard fought) Sports.

However all sport...(and the damage that TiddlyWinks can do the the Cartiledge of the Thumb...and therefter the Nerves in the Hand)...are under threat from the Health and Safety gauliiters who have managed to stop a Church Egg & Spoon race held for Charity...so what chance your Boxing Club...try Mime Boxing...OUCH THAT HURTS (i'm miming) !

Best Regards.

I am also experiencing the problem of 'Add New Topic' not working!
Anyway, a quick question.
Mick Gannon has submitted an article on 14 Feb on the ABAE front page stating the dates and qualifying criteria for the 3 Nations tournaments.
1994 & 1995 entrants have their championship in England 10-13 April.
1992 & 1993 entrants have their championship in Cardiff 17-20 April.
1990 & 1991 entrants have their championship in Scotland 26-28 June.
Senior championship is 30-31 May in Sheffield.

Q1. I take it he means the 'GB' tournament (taking over from the 4 Nations last year)?
Q2. The Junior ABA championship finals are on 31st May (ABAE event calendar page). This is for 1990, 1991 & 1992 age groups. In that case, how will the 1992 champion be determined before the 1992 age group GB tournament on 17 April?

Thanks for your help.

I have recently become a father to my only son and i know this might seem far to early to start thinking about him boxing, but i'm wondering at what age can he start training at a club? I know he will have to be eleven years old before he can compete, but surely he can start training with a club at an early age? Also does anyone know if Shildon Boxing Club exists still? I can't find a local one in Darlington and Spennymoor appears to be the closest, but a friend mentioned Shildon had a good one but i can't find any information anywhere!!

Thanks for your time

I cogratulate you on your achievements in the boxing ring. Amateur boxing is very
political and there is no guarantee when it comes to selection for England.

Why is Tyson Fury not going to the Olympics? I can't believe you are sending second best to represent our country. It's an outrage.
P.S. I am not a Gypsy. I just want to see the best representing our country.

Is there ever any mention in the ABAE/AIBA of a change in the upper age limit for Amateur boxing? It seems at best to be a dated rule (although I'm sure it was 35 a few years back and can't recall when it got dropped to 34) and at worst it is ageism! If boxers are having annual medicals beyond their 30th birthday, why can't they be assessed on their medical fitness to box rather than an arbitrary number? A boxer can have a long and hard career and be shot at 24, or could be a "young" 34 having been involved in no wars at all yet the 24 year old would be the only one allowed to box: Ludicrous! Guess what - I'm over 30 and getting anxious!

PS Tyson Fury lost comprehensively to Price last season and subsequently Price has qualified for the Olympics on his own Merits. Fury is quality though and I hope he stays around as an amateur for a bit - although, bar his vest, he looked every bit the pro at York Hall

Just wondering what the situation will be for the 2010 ABA Championships?
The Commonwealth Games are in October that year, so will the Senior ABA Championships be brought forward?
